10 Tips for finding a job

Job

There are no “miracle recipes” for finding a job, however through active search, you can get the job you want more quickly.
View the job search as a full-time job, spending at least 8 hours a day for this important task. In this way, you will probably be able to overcome all those who are waiting for a job to “come knocking on their door”.

1. Definition of goals and preferences
Firstly, before starting your search, you should define which roles you are available to perform and in which sectors. The geographic limits, how far you are willing to go to the workplace and the “target companies” also have to be defined.

2. Documentary preparation
Prepare the documents required for a job application such as: resume, cover letter, certificates, diplomas and letters of recommendation.

3. Constant disclosure
Always discuss your situation with your family, friends and even acquaintances. How will these people know that you are out of a job or looking for something better if you don’t tell them?

4. Start actively searching
You can find a lot of ads, both on job sites and in job classifieds in newspapers. Register on the sites, activate newsletters, and check your email box regularly. Remember, if you’re one of the first people to respond to an ad, you can make all the difference.

5. Send applications for job offers
Send applications both in response to job offers and to your “target companies” by email unless the job offer states otherwise. If you have the opportunity to go to the company, be sure to do so! It’s a good opportunity to try to influence the decision in your favor.

6. Show willingness to work
A few days have passed and you have not received any response to your application. Contact the company in question to know the state of play; try to talk to the person responsible for recruitment and show your interest in that job offer.

7. Telephone interview
After analyzing the applications, there is often a selection of candidates by telephone. React naturally, always with good manners and sympathy and if it is not the most opportune moment, be sincere and ask for the contact to call later.

8. Face-to-face Interview
Always do some research on the company in question before presenting for an interview. Dress up and don’t forget that the image is your business card. Show yourself confident of your abilities, with interest and try to have a conversation starter to “break the ice”.

9. Post-interview
After the interviews, no matter how optimistic you may have been, you should continue with an active job search, because the end result may not be the most desired. So, do not waste your time!

10. Don’t waste opportunities
Before turning down a job offer, go to the interview and find out what roles you are going to perform and what the company has to offer you. Who knows, if the roles and growth prospects don’t go much further than what appears in the description.
